Hi

Iwas wondering if anyone on here could help advise

I am looking to buy a new DVD recorder ideally with a Hard Disk to cut down
on storage for time shifted programs

also I would like DivX support and Memory card or USB key interface for
transferring divx Files from my PC

I have narrowed it down to 3 so far

LG RH 7800
Hitachi DV-DS81E (although it's only the larger DS161E which has them memory
card slot)
Eltax DVR555HD (seems to tick all the right boxes as far as specification
but I can't find a review of it)
As anyone any experience of these

I have been put of the Lite On because of bad reviews of freezing and losing
recordings

alternatively should I gust get a DVD Recorder without Hard Disk and just
keep a couple of DVD RW / DVD RAM disk for timeshifting

LG and Hitachi are pretty much the same recorders. If you put a LG recorder
and a Hitachi recorder next to each other, you'll notice that they are more
than 90% the same hardware and software (probably manufactured the same
place).

Take the one you like the most.

Hi,

I use the Panasonic EHR2080 and that does have a front usb port, and will
play diivx movies from cd but I don't think they can be transfered to hard
disk, and such like I'm afraid, but it does have the front usb port for
using say a usb memory stick say 1gb or so and you could play the movies
directly off that if you wanted to and that works fine.

The hard disk is 80gb and depending on the quality settings you do get a 100
hours onto the hard drive and up 6 hours on a dvd disk. I don't think it can
play or recoed the 8.5gb disks, if someone could confirm this I would be
very grateful, as I am having problems in rehards to this.
